The Challenge
Linn Public was unhappy with their records situation. They also had a new plot of land that they wanted digital mapping for before they started burying people there. They wanted to start that area of the cemetery off on the right foot. There were also areas of the cemetery that were inaccurate when comparing the paper maps to what was actually out in the cemetery.
Our Process
Lazarus started out by traveling to Linn Public. We met with the cemetery manager, photographed the paper maps, walked the cemetery headstone for headstone, and flew the drone. Our drone captured a high quality image to use for mapping, and our ground team documented the names, dates, and locations from each of the memorials in the cemetery.

Back in our offices, we began mapping the cemetery using the Excel sheet provided by Linn Public, the drone image, the paper maps, and the data we gathered when out in the cemetery. As we mapped the cemetery, we were able to catch any discrepancies when cross referencing between all of the data samples we had.

Finally, we were given starting spots, and grave dimensions by Linn Public for the new plot of land. They wanted a certain number of graves per row, and the graves to be 4ft x 10ft. They also wanted a specific distance between each row. Using the mapping tools we use, we were able to grid this out exactly how they wanted.

The Result
Linn Public now has an updated digital map and database for their cemetery. They can search the entire cemetery in seconds. They also know it is now accurate due to all of the cross referencing that we did. Linn Public also is ahead of the game when it comes to selling plots and burying people on their new plot of land. Everything is neat, organized, and ready for them to start selling plots. ​

All of their records are now secure for the future. They have also ensured the longevity of their cemetery as whoever is next in line to take the cemetery manager position, has no more mess left for them.
